McCashins pipe bridge
Project Spotlight: Pipe Bridge Installation for New Canning System
When a client needed a way to efficiently connect multiple utilities and product lines to a new canning system, Kernohan Engineering was brought in to deliver a custom-built solution that would overcome both distance and complexity inside a busy manufacturing facility.
The Challenge: Bridging the Gap
The new canning line required access to a variety of essential services—including steam, condensate return, CIP (clean-in-place), product lines, CO₂, compressed air, and water. However, most of these services were located on the opposite side of the factory, making traditional routing difficult and disruptive.
The Kernohan Solution: A Custom Pipe Bridge
To overcome the challenge, Kernohan designed and fabricated a purpose-built pipe bridge that could span the required distance while keeping services organised, secure, and accessible.
The bridge and its supporting structures were manufactured in Kernohan’s fabrication workshop, with careful attention to both function and material selection. Based on the specific product carried through each line, the team used a mix of stainless steel and carbon steel pipework to suit pressure, corrosion resistance, and food-grade requirements.
Each pipeline was individually pressure tested before installation to ensure safety, integrity, and long-term reliability.
Smart, Efficient, and Built to Last
This project demonstrates Kernohan’s strength in delivering practical, engineering-led solutions for complex production environments. By designing and fabricating the entire system in-house, Kernohan was able to minimise on-site disruption while delivering a fully integrated solution—ready to support the client's new canning operations from day one.
